About the role
Canonical is hiring an Associate Support Engineer to launch a career supporting the technical needs of customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. This is your opportunity to work with industry-leading engineers while building expertise in Linux and open source technologies.
**Your Role:**
- Resolve high-volume user requests through email, phone, and web support
- Investigate and fulfill Tier 1 & 2 support requests
- Collaborate with internal teams to escalate complex issues
- Navigate ambiguity to deliver exceptional customer outcomes
- Diagnose problems and propose short and long-term solutions
- Maintain thorough documentation and notation for future reference
- Provide feedback to leadership on processes and trends
- Demonstrate strong communication while managing customer expectations
**What You Need:**
- Exceptional academic track record (high school and university)
- Undergraduate degree in technical subject (CS, MIS, Electrical Engineering preferred)
- Confidence to speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas
- Track record of exceeding expectations
- Linux troubleshooting experience (logs, stack traces, configuration tuning)
- Hands-on knowledge of 2+ of: Linux server administration, programming (bash/Python/Go/C++), networking, virtualization/cloud
- Ability to learn quickly and thrive on change
- Strong English communication (written and verbal)
- Appreciation for diversity and multicultural collaboration
- Result-oriented with drive to meet commitments
- Ability to travel internationally twice yearly (up to 2 weeks)
**Nice-to-Have:**
- Virtual environment experience (KVM, Virtual Box, VMWare)
- Open-source desktop technologies
- Active open-source contribution/community participation
