Art Director (12-month contract) - Japan

Canva is on a mission to democratise design, building the world's most-used visual communication platform with a marketplace of templates used by millions worldwide. As Art Director for Japan, you'll oversee the end-to-end rollout of the Japan content library — creating fresh, culturally resonant designs, writing Creator briefs, and reviewing template submissions to keep quality high and on-brand. What you'll do: - Create fresh, varied, beautiful designs for the Japan community - Develop unique template concepts across themes that resonate locally - Review Creator template submissions and give clear, actionable feedback - Use AI tools to create templates at scale for the Japan market without losing craft - Partner with the Design Lead to manage PPO designers, keeping work on-brief and on-time What you'll need: - Experience as an Art Director, Graphic Designer, or Visual Designer across digital and print - A genuine love for design trends and styles specific to Japan - Strong craft in illustration, typography, colour, and layout - Comfortable using AI tools in your design workflow - Based in Tokyo, Japan
